Centuries ago, Huckleberries were an Algonquin staple, enjoyed either fresh during their short season of ripeness or sun-dried and preserved for the winter. This selection represents the fleeting pinnacle of Mountain Huckleberry season in Montana and Idaho, frozen at peak sweetness and culinary versatility. With explosive flavors frequently compared to pineapple, blueberry, banana and fig, these berries make a phenomenal addition to any recipe, and are equally satisfying on their own or layered atop a bowl of yogurt.
Though huckleberries were among the most widely traded foraged fruits on the continent throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, their short season and painstaking picking process eventually eroded their accessibility. Today, though hard to find, this stemless selection is as convenient and satisfying as any we’ve tried.
